Richard Gere receives the Honorary Award in Barcelona in an intimate and very special ceremony

Sometimes, even a power outage can lead to a magical moment. This Monday, April 28, the anticipated 69th edition of the Sant Jordi Film Awards had to be canceled due to a major power outage. But as they say, the show must go on… and it did.

In an informal gathering held this afternoon at the elegant Hotel Casa Fuster in Barcelona, actor and producer Richard Gere received the RTVE Honorary Award. The presentation was brief, emotional, and full of meaning. Gere, one of Hollywood's living legends, expressed his happiness and gratitude:

"It's very nice to be recognized by the people of Spain for what I've been doing for so long. It's very special," he declared, smiling.

A tribute to a film career

The statuette was presented by Esteve Crespo (director of RTVE Catalunya) and Pere Buhigas (director of Ràdio 4), who highlighted Gere's indelible mark on cinema. His career includes unforgettable classics such as Pretty Woman, An Officer and a Gentleman, Unfaithful, Arbitrage, and the musical Chicago. This year, he also participates in the BCN Film Fest as producer of the documentary Wisdom and Happiness.

Although the gala is officially postponed until 2026 — in a double edition for the 70th anniversary — the 2025 award winners have already been announced:

🎬 Best Spanish film: Segundo Premio, by Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodríguez
🌍 Best international film: Dune: Part Two, by Denis Villeneuve
🎭 Best performers: Laura Weissmahr, Pepe Lorente, Demi Moore and Kōji Yakusho
🌟 Best debut film: La estrella azul, by Javier Macipe
🌹 Roses de Sant Jordi (audience vote): El 47 (Spanish) and Emilia Pérez (international)
🎞 Industry Award: Pau Brunet
🎬 Lifetime Achievement Award: the iconic Carmen Maura
